Regional Medical Center (RMC)
TURNING HEALTHCARE
TRANSITIONS
INTO TRUST
CHALLENGE
When Santa Clara Valley Healthcare (SCVH) acquired Regional Medical Center (RMC) in East San Jose, the move prevented the hospital’s closure and preserved vital community services. Even so, the transition introduced significant uncertainty. Employees had questions about job security, while residents feared losing access to care. For SCVH, the challenge extended beyond logistics — it was about building trust. The organization needed to ease community-wide concerns, unify stakeholdersand reframe the acquisition as a commitment to continuity and a reinforcement of its mission, rather than a source of disruption.
OUTCOME
SCVH transformed a moment of change into shared optimism by aligning the acquisition with its established brand platform, “The Power of We,” developed previously in partnership with Maricich Health. Reflecting the health system’s longstanding commitment to the community, the platform champions a mission-driven public health system centered on people and community well-being, providing a clear framework for the transition. Building on this foundation, SCVH and Maricich Health launched a proactive, multilingual marketing and communications strategy grounded in transparency and inclusion. Local outreach and targeted media reassured the community that access to care would remain uninterrupted, while countywide brand messaging unified employees, patients, and community leaders around a single, positive vision. The result was a seamless shift from concern to trust and from confusion to clarity — transforming an uncertain merger into a powerful symbol of collaboration and community strength.
